About the role
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the Plant Engineering team in delivering projects including our first demonstration scale electrolyser plant. You will thrive in the fast-paced start-up world where no two days are the same. You’ll be joining a team of smart, driven, collaborative and highly dedicated individuals who love solving engineering challenges and who are excited to be fighting the climate crisis.
Role responsibilities
- Review past designs and data from test/pilot systems and implement lessons learned in new projects;
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and legislation, develop technical specifications and define deliverables for the electrical engineering discipline;
- Prepare drawings such as single line diagrams and electrical schematics, as well as other documents relevant to the discipline (cable schedule, etc.);
- Work closely with the process engineering team and engineering service providers to ensure the plant design meets the requirements for reliability, efficiency and cost, and oversee the completion of design deliverables. Activities related to, but not limited to:
- Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and other technical documents;
- Work with the other Hysata engineering disciplines through the design process to ensure all systems integrate efficiently;
- Assist in planning and executing construction, commissioning and operation of demonstration plant scale and full commercial scale electrolysers;
- Monitor project progress and adjust schedules as necessary to ensure timely completion;
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables;
- Supervise construction activities to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards;
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and other project team members to ensure smooth execution of construction tasks;
- Plan and oversee the commissioning process, including system testing and validation;
- Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and checklists;
- Implement quality control procedures to ensure all work meets project standards and regulatory requirements;
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design records, construction logs, and commissioning reports;
- Mentor other electrical engineers and assist in building a team capable of delivering multiple plants per year; and
- Ensure continuous improvement of project delivery processes.
What you'll bring
- Electrical Engineering Degree;
- 8+ years’ experience including design, construction, commissioning and operation of chemical/petrochemical plants;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Proficiency in using software for electrical design;
- Experience managing contractors and working on site;
- Experience with hazardous area classification and design;
- Understanding of safety regulations and practices to ensure a safe working environment;
- Flexibility to handle unexpected challenges and adjust plans accordingly;
- Motivated, capable of working independently within a multi-disciplinary environment; and
- Experience in training and mentoring other electrical engineers.
Desirable but not essential
- Experience with electrolysers;
- Experience in designing, installing and operating high voltage systems;
- Experience in installing and operating DC power supplies over 200 kW; and
- Experience in designing lightning protection systems.
