Stanwell Corporation Limited, Rockhampton, Queensland
Project Highlights
• Hysata’s first commercial demonstration of our commercial scale electrolyser system in partnership with Queensland Government-owned power company Stanwell Corporation Limited (Stanwell).
• AU$20.9 million in funding from the Australian Government, through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), in addition to AU$3 million from Stanwell Corporation.
Project Description
The Stanwell demonstration marks the first commercial application of Hysata’s capillary-fed electrolyser technology.
The commercial electrolyser system, which includes the stack array, the balance of plant and the power supply, will be designed, developed, manufactured, and assembled at Hysata’s Port Kembla facility. It will be demonstrated for six months at Stanwell’s Future Energy and Innovation Training Hub (FEITH) in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia.
Outcomes
• Demonstration of Hysata’s commercial ultra-high efficiency electrolyser system, tested in the field against key performance criteria.
• Proven capabilities for in-house, advanced manufacturing of Hysata’s electrolyser system.
Economic Benefits
• 44 new, local jobs directly created at Hysata.
• $47.53 million in investment into the Australian hydrogen ecosystem, with $23.9 million received from the Australian Government and Stanwell, and remaining provided by Hysata.
About Stanwell Corporation Limited and FEITH
Stanwell is a Queensland Government-owned power company. Stanwell’s Tarong and Stanwell power stations, and Meandu Mine, deliver reliable energy for today. Stanwell’s pipeline of renewable energy projects, including Clarke Creek Wind Farm, Wambo Wind Farm, Tarong West Wind Farm, solar off-takes and a hydrogen export opportunity are lighting the way for a bright future of clean energy.
The FEITH site will provide facilities to test innovative new energy technology including energy storage and hydrogen. It will also provide a real-life, hands-on training environment for Queensland energy employees to develop the skills needed to work on new energy technologies. For more information on the FEITH site, see the Queensland Government’s official media statement.
About Hysata
Hysata is an Australian electrolyser manufacturing company which has developed a unique and patented electrolyser featuring the world’s most efficient cell. Hysata electrolysers achieve 95% system efficiency (41.5 kWh/kg), surpassing incumbents by 20% and IRENA’s 2050 electrolyser efficiency target. High costs hinder green hydrogen production, mostly driven by electricity costs. Hysata’s electrolysers with exceptional efficiency will transform the economics of green hydrogen production.
For further information and to stay up to date on the project’s knowledge sharing, see Hysata’s project page on the ARENA website.
