Quality Engineer
at Hysata Pty. Ltd. (View all Jobs)
About us
Hysata is on a mission to accelerate the shift from fossil fuels to green hydrogen with the world’s most efficient electrolyser. Our breakthrough capillary-fed electrolyser achieves an unprecedented 95% system efficiency (41.5 kWh/kg) – a step change from incumbent technologies, which typically sit at ~75% and already ahead of International Renewable Energy Agency’s 2050 target. This leap in performance enables a radically simpler system design, slashing both energy use (opex) and system and renewables capex.
Hysata’s innovation has captured global attention, including publication in Nature Communications and support from leading strategic and financial investors such as BP, POSCO and Vestas. With over 100 team members, we’re a high-performing, purpose-driven company, proud to be 35% women, representing 20+ nationalities, and united by a shared mission to enable the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, chemical manufacturing, shipping and aviation.
Having secured Australia’s largest ever cleantech Series B raise of US$111 million, Hysata is scaling rapidly to bring our technology to market. With strong customer demand and a clear path to manufacturing at scale, we are on track to become a global leader in green hydrogen and put a major dent in global emissions.
About the role
We are an electrolyser technology company designing and manufacturing electrochemical stacks, including in-house production of critical cell materials and assembly, with balance-of-stack hardware sourced from qualified suppliers.
As we transition from pilot-scale to sustained manufacturing, we are building a dedicated Quality function. The Quality Engineer / Technician will be a hands-on contributor within this team, reporting directly to the Quality Lead and supporting day-to-day quality execution across manufacturing, suppliers, and testing.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the process—on the floor, in the lab, and working directly with operators and engineers—while helping establish scalable quality practices in a fast-moving environment.
The role is based in Australia at our on-site at manufacturing facility in Port Kembla but has some supplier travel required.
Role responsibilities
1. Manufacturing Quality (In-House Components)
- Perform and support:
- Incoming, in-process, and final inspections
- Dimensional, visual, and functional checks
- Execute inspection plans for:
- Cell material fabrication (coatings, substrates, treatments)
- Cell material assembly
- Stack and sub-assembly operations
- Record inspection results, identify non-conformances, and support containment actions;
- Assist with:
- Yield tracking
- Scrap and rework analysis
- Process capability and basic SPC where applicable
- Work closely with production and engineering to resolve quality issues quickly and pragmatically.
2. Supplier Quality Support
- Support incoming inspection of supplier parts and assemblies;
- Help manage supplier non-conformances, including:
- Documentation
- Root cause inputs
- Corrective action follow-up
- Assist the Quality Manager with:
- Supplier performance metrics
- Audit preparation and execution (remote or on-site)
- Ensure supplier documentation meets requirements (CoC, inspection reports, traceability).
3. Quality Management System (QMS) Execution
- Follow and help maintain QMS procedures developed by the Quality Lead;
- Support:
- Document control
- Change control
- Deviations and CAPAs
- Ensure quality records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready; and
- Identify opportunities to simplify or improve quality processes as production scales.
4. Product & Test Quality
- Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and related documentation;
- Assist with investigation of internal and customer-reported issues;
- Participate in root cause analysis activities (5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D); and
- Help ensure traceability of critical materials, components, and builds.
5. Continuous Improvement & Quality Culture
- Act as a visible quality presence on the manufacturing floor;
- Train operators on inspection methods, quality requirements, and documentation;
- Promote a “right-first-time” mindset without slowing production unnecessarily;
- Escalate issues appropriately while remaining solutions-oriented.
What you'll bring
