PLM and Engineering Data Engineer

at Hysata Pty. Ltd. (View all Jobs)

Port Kembla, New South Wales, Australia

About us

Hysata is on a mission to accelerate the shift from fossil fuels to green hydrogen with the world’s most efficient electrolyser. Our breakthrough capillary-fed electrolyser achieves an unprecedented 95% system efficiency (41.5 kWh/kg) – a step change from incumbent technologies, which typically sit at ~75% and already ahead of International Renewable Energy Agency’s 2050 target. This leap in performance enables a radically simpler system design, slashing both energy use (opex) and system and renewables capex.

Hysata’s innovation has captured global attention, including publication in Nature Communications and support from leading strategic and financial investors such as BP, POSCO and Vestas. With over 100 team members, we’re a high-performing, purpose-driven company, proud to be 35% women, representing 20+ nationalities, and united by a shared mission to enable the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, chemical manufacturing, shipping and aviation.

Having secured Australia’s largest ever cleantech Series B raise of US$111 million, Hysata is scaling rapidly to bring our technology to market. With strong customer demand and a clear path to manufacturing at scale, we are on track to become a global leader in green hydrogen and put a major dent in global emissions.

About the role

We are seeking someone to help fix our engineering data and systems, not implement a framework from their last job. Working directly with the Director of Mechanical Engineering, you’ll assess what’s broken, work out what we actually need, and build it.

The tools are secondary. We’re evaluating platforms and want someone who can work through that with us, configure whatever we land on, and build the BOM structure, change processes, and document control that a hardware startup at our stage actually needs.

A cross functional hands-on execution role. You’re doing the work, not directing others to do it.

Role responsibilities

PLM & CAD Systems

  • Drive implementation of our PLM and CAD platform — configuration, migration, rollout;
  • Reduce reliance on third-party administration; build internal capability;
  • Keep the PLM environment current and engineers unblocked.

BOM & Engineering Change

  • Build eBOM/mBOM structure with real-time visibility from design through to manufacturing;
  • Implement an ECO/ECR process simple enough that engineers actually use it;
  • Maintain release state visibility across design, procurement, and production.

Document & Data Control

  • Set and maintain document standards, naming conventions, metadata, and release rules;
  • Ensure drawings and specs are linked, versioned, and findable.

Collaboration & Data Sharing

  • Work across the org to ensure teams have the access and tools they need, such as quality feedback from manufacturing, or data collaboration with project teams;
  • Manage secure data sharing with external partners.

Integration

  • Contribute to PLM–ERP and PLM–MES integration as we scale toward production;
  • Work with Project teams to develop methods of project data management;
  • Train the engineering team on systems and processes you put in place.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering;
  • 4 - 10 years engineering experience in design or manufacturing engineering, you’ve worked in a design office or on a shop floor;
  • Hands-on PLM and engineering data experience; ideally you’ve configured workflows, metadata, lifecycle states, and release processes yourself, but having worked in it and having opinions is something;
  • Enough PLM breadth to pick up an unfamiliar system and configure it without hand-holding; and
  • You ask questions before proposing solutions.

Useful but not essential:

  • PLM implementation or migration experience;
  • Startup or scale-up background;
  • PLM–ERP or PLM–MES integration exposure; and
  • Familiarity with cloud-native or SaaS PLM platforms.

What we offer

Perks Include (but are not limited to):

  • Idyllic Beachside Location
  • Stock options;
  • Salary Sacrifice into Superannuation;
  • Flexible working conditions;
  • Recognition of Service;
  • Wellness Allowance;
  • EAP through Sonder;
  • Novated Leasing;
  • Employee Discount Program through Flare; and
  • Awesome work environment and team!
