Engineering Data and PLM Manager

at Hysata Pty. Ltd. (View all Jobs)

Port Kembla, New South Wales, Australia

About us

Hysata is on a mission to accelerate the shift from fossil fuels to green hydrogen with the world’s most efficient electrolyser. Our breakthrough capillary-fed electrolyser achieves an unprecedented 95% system efficiency (41.5 kWh/kg) – a step change from incumbent technologies, which typically sit at ~75% and already ahead of International Renewable Energy Agency’s 2050 target. This leap in performance enables a radically simpler system design, slashing both energy use (opex) and system and renewables capex.

Hysata’s innovation has captured global attention, including publication in Nature Communications and support from leading strategic and financial investors such as BP, POSCO and Vestas. With over 100 team members, we’re a high-performing, purpose-driven company, proud to be 35% women, representing 20+ nationalities, and united by a shared mission to enable the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, chemical manufacturing, shipping and aviation.

Having secured Australia’s largest ever cleantech Series B raise of US$111 million, Hysata is scaling rapidly to bring our technology to market. With strong customer demand and a clear path to manufacturing at scale, we are on track to become a global leader in green hydrogen and put a major dent in global emissions.

About the role

We are seeking an Engineering Data & PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) Manager to establish and own the management of engineering data, documentation, and configuration across Hysata’s product development lifecycle. Reporting to the Director of Mechanical Engineering, this role will support Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Process Engineering teams by ensuring engineering data is structured, traceable, and release-ready.

This role is responsible for defining and maintaining practical PLM and document control processes while also supporting production, project and construction documentation in Aconex and manufacturing-related data. The role is suited to someone who can balance system thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-moving hardware development environment. You will thrive in the fast-paced start-up world where no two days are the same. You’ll be joining a team of smart, driven, collaborative and highly dedicated individuals who love solving engineering challenges and who are excited to be fighting the climate crisis.

Role responsibilities

  • Own and manage engineering data, documentation, and configuration control across the product lifecycle, from early development through industrialisation;
  • Act as system owner (business-side) for PLM, defining document structures, metadata, lifecycles, and workflows that support Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Process Engineering;
  • Define and maintain engineering document standards, templates, naming conventions, and release rules;
  • Manage document and CAD release processes, ensuring released data is complete, correct, and traceable to parts, assemblies, and engineering changes;
  • Support and enforce change-controlled updates via ECR/ECO processes;
  • Ensure engineering specifications, reports, drawings, and process documents are correctly linked and baselined;
  • Support Process Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering documentation, including process specifications, work instructions, and manufacturing-related records;
  • Coordinate engineering project documentation in Aconex, ensuring alignment between project, engineering, and PLM data;
  • Support integration and data handover to MES systems for production readiness;
  • Act as the primary point of contact for engineers on PLM and document-related questions;
  • Train and support engineering teams in effective and consistent use of PLM and document management tools; and
  • Work with IT and external vendors to support PLM system improvements and future capability growth.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related discipline;
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering data management, PLM, configuration management, or engineering operations roles;
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Engineering document and configuration control
    • CAD, parts, assemblies, and release workflows
    • Change management in hardware development environments
  • Hands-on experience with Teamcenter or a comparable PLM system;
  • Experience supporting multi-disciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, manufacturing, process);
  • Ability to balance governance with pragmatism in a fast-paced R&D environment; and
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with senior engineers, engineering leadership and external partners.
